To anyone who has bought Water + Salt Jewellery, I just want to take a moment and thank you. It means a lot – truly. I’ve been saying since we first started, that I wanted this to be bigger than a jewellery company, it is bigger than a jewellery company. I’ve been collecting seaglass along several of the beaches in Vancouver for over 8 years now. I didn’t want it on the beaches, nor did I want anything else that isn’t naturally occurring on the beaches either. I want better for the animals, they deserve it, for the kids who love playing at the beach, for dogs more than thrilled to GET. IN. THE. WATER., for people to enjoy, without the garbage, without the glass.
When you support me, you’re helping me clean more of the beaches. You are helping the animals, you are doing more than just buying some jewellery (some nice looking jewellery of course). You are investing in me and my vision. My next goal with this company is to be able to give back directly to people in Vancouver with some of the profits. Wouldn’t it be incredible if not only you were supporting a women-run small business, AND helping to clean the beaches, AND wearing ethical, sustainable, jewellery, that your money + support was ALSO helping to support communities in and around Vancouver/ BC/ Canada??? Now THAT sounds incredible to me.
At Water + Salt, there is always a million reasons behind everything we do, so here, plain and simple, these are the things we are all about/ stand for (in no specific order, subject to change)
- Cleaning the beaches
- Recycling, reusing, repurposing (in your own life don’t forget about reducing)
- Art, design, creativity
- Philanthropy/ sociology
- Community/ community support
- Environmental enthusiast/ Marine life lover
- Activist: To give back, to get involved, to do something, anything
I can’t make people do things differently, all I can do, is do what I can.
I feel an obligation to do my part, and all of you here are helping do that, are doing it too.
I’m out at any one of Vancouver’s many beaches around once a week, I enjoy it. I love being by the beach, I love that I’m doing what I can to help, I love collecting all the seaglass I find, and I can’t help but feel lucky to find it.
I love getting to talk to people as I go, some people are genuinely unsure what it is I’m collecting or why I’m doing it, they assume I've lost or am looking for something specific. I'm out there for all these reasons and more.
To wrap up, thank you all again for being here, for supporting me, for helping me clean the beaches, for investing in a company that I hope grows, from being more than a jewellery company.
Talk to you all again next week!
Sarah
