January 2022, BTS and Future Chat

When collecting pieces of seaglass, I spend hours going along the shoreline of the beaches here in Vancouver. I pick up every single piece of seaglass and every piece of garbage I find on my walks. Some days I spend hours and come away with around 600 pieces of glass and other days I come back with 200, it seems almost random.

I pack a water bottle, snack, hand sanitizer and a couple of different bags or containers to divide and transport the glass. I will be at the beaches collecting rain or shine, there’s something beautiful about being by the water in all types of weather. When it’s warm or hot out it’s easy to want to get in the water myself or make a point of rinsing the sand off of every piece of glass I find. When it’s raining I find myself always wondering if there will be a point where the ocean is so filled, to the brim that there’s a real possibility all the water could just overflow and come rushing out (not a very sound hypothesis or probable outcome). It’s something I always seem to think about. It's hard to think about how much water there is in the ocean and how wild it is that there is a way for it to hold more.

I don’t often collect glass with people as I’m sure it might not sound like everyone’s cup of tea, which I can appreciate for sure. I don’t realize how fast time seems to go by when I’m down by the sea, but I guess that’s always been the case for people having fun, you never really quite know where the time has gone.

Post collection I make a point of stretching a lot and lying stretched out on a flat surface trying to compensate for the number of hours I have just spent hunched over, straining my neck. It feels great getting to release all that tension.

For 2022, my goals are to;

  1. Donate quarterly gross income to 3 different organizations

  2. Sell wholesale

  3. Expand my range of products (I have some stunning prototypes in the works now, some really exciting pieces coming in March!)

  4. Sell at a few markets (I will be posting updates on the website as well as on our Instagram account for where you’ll be able to find Water + Salt Jewellery locally in Vancouver)

  5. Grow our little community in person and online

Thank you for taking the time and reading my first real post of the year, you can expect to see new things coming to the website and Instagram in the next two months and newsletters posted every 3 weeks!

Talk to you soon!
